Sally is a quirky character who loves Death Rock and faded blue jeans. She fits in better with the Addams Family than with a clique of catty sixth grade girls. After her mother's death, grief-stricken Sally begs for death... and death is exactly what she gets: a tail-wagging skeleton dog called Bones. A gift from beyond the grave, Bones is a dreadfully delicious girl's best friend. In this cleverly written, alliterative tale the town's bones go missing and everyone blames Bones. Sally must solve the mystery to save her cadaverous canine from puppy prison.
This book was super fun and funny! I liked Sally Simplesmith's character and LOVED Bones the dead dog. This was a detective book, so I was happy to see that Sally and Bones worked together very well. Bones always knew what to do, he was really the smart one. I loved all the names of the characters in this book like of course, Sally Simplesmith and her father Seymour. Then there's Viola Vanderperfect, haha Vanderperfect. Guess what she wasn't so perfect, kinda bratty. Viola had a dog named Princess Poopsy. Too funny.
Well, if you like a good, who stole what? dedetective mystery, then check this one out. It's a good one!
This book looks like so much fun! I can't wait to read it! Today we have one of the characters from The Detention Club with us to answer some fun questions.
Peter Lee, what do you prefer, this or that? (P.S. The fart question is from my dumb brother)
Summer or Fall:
Either season is perfect for land-skiing.
Bouncy ball or inflatable ball:
Bouncy ball—I’m not a germ freak, but I don’t like to lick things that have been already licked by others if I can help it.
Cool or Jerk:
In theory, “cool.”
Gmail or Yahoo mail:
What’s Yahoomail?
Pop or rock:
I like poppy rock. Or rocky pop, for that matter.
Pants or shorts:
Shorts—bullies don’t feel comfortable giving wedgies to you if you’re wearing shorts for some reason. I think maybe it feels too personal for them or something.
Cats or dogs:
Cats. You have to earn the respect of cats. Plus, compared to dogs, it actually feels nice to get licked by cats.
Fart or burp:
I can burp-talk really well. (I just burped that answer out, in fact.)
Ice cream or donuts:
You have funner dreams if you eat ice cream before bed. Plus, even though I always feel like I could eat a dozen donuts when I first open up a box, I usually crash out after 2-3, tops. For some reason that annoys me about donuts.
Girl or boy:
Well, given that my sister Sunny’s a girl, I’d have to go with…duh--boy!
Mittens or gloves:
You’d be surprised to know that I prefer mittens. They’re not as useful and always make my hands clammy, which then makes them cold because it’s winter, but I like that nobody knows what your fingers are doing when you wear mittens.
Movie or TV show:
The special effects on TV shows are never as good as they are in movies. I respect big budgets—that says to me that the people behind it really care about their art.
Books or concert:
I enjoy watching street magic.
Computer or TV:
Computer. A TV is useless if you don’t have a decent cable-package, which my parents never get.
Music or walks:
I’m 11. I don’t do “walks.”
one wish or ice cream forever:
I do like ice cream (see above), but I’d have to say one wish. And assuming you can’t wish for a million wishes, I’d ask for a time machine.
Fairy or Fairy god parent:
Who wants a third parent?
Be awesome and have no friends or be nerdy and have friends:
Lately I’ve been that first choice so I guess I’d go for the second, just for the change of pace.
parents or friends:
If my answer didn’t result in me never being born, I’d choose friends.
Pink or gray:
Gray, I guess, but that says more about how much I don’t like pink.
Write a book or sing for a living:
I guess write a book since this feels like I had to write a book just to answer all these questions, so it would seem I’m qualified already to-oh, wait, we’re done? Actually, now that I think about it, I figure it might be cool to sing for a living. But not pop.
I want to be a singer too!! Maybe we can start a band! Thanks for answering our questions! I can't wait to read The Detention Club!
Detention
The best worst thing to happen to Peter Lee?
Peter and his best friend, Drew, used to be so cool (or, at least, not total outcasts) in elementary school. But now they're in middle school, where their extensive mica collection and prowess at kickball have earned them a new label: losers. Then Peter attracts the unwanted attention of the school bullies, and his plan to become popular through his older sister, the practically perfect Sunny, backfires.
Things go from bad to worse when Peter gets detention. But what at first seems to spell his utter doom turns into an unlikely opportunity for making friends and influencing people. . . .

Despite their initial hesitation, living with Anne has softened the Flock, so Max is keenly aware that it's time to leave. With Thanksgiving so near, though, all of them want to stay, at least until they've had their first ever Thanksgiving turkey! But danger is on the horizon as Jeb's plan advances, and while the Flock's new school seems normal and safe, secrets are hidden beneath its prestigious facade...
I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's the best book in the world!! I think it was well written and I LOVED the characters but my favorite's had to be Max and Iggy. Because I think they really loved each other! ♥ :) There were some minor cuss words in the book but that's really it, and they hold hands, but that's it.... You really need to read this book! It's my favorite book!

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.
Review:
I don't know where to begin or how much to tell. When I read this book, all I knew was that it was about Angels. That's it. And I'm so glad that's all I knew. So, I don't want to give too much away. There's a pretty big spoiler in the book description (which I took out) that I wish wasn't there because I just want people to experience it without knowing what's coming. It's so much better that way!! So, if you haven't read the book description, don't read it!!
I absolutely loved Cynthia's writing style. I flew through this book without even realizing that I was through it! It was almost like reading two different stories in one. Like there's this incredible book, with an extra amazing story placed in the middle of it. I felt like I was transported! And the setting was just compelling! I wanted to go to Wyoming and go skiing and hiking and swing on rope swings into dangerous rivers. Everything about it just made me smile and sigh and wish it were me there living that life! Amazing!
Clara is an fantastic character! I just loved her! And it was so refreshing to read about a girl being the angel, trying to save a boy for once! She certainly had her issues, but she was no damsel in distress! She made me laugh with her orange hair and her playful talk. I felt like she was a really relatable character.....even if she is an Angel!
I also loved the mystery in the book. I found everything so mysterious! From Clara, to her mother, to Clara's friend, to her brother, and even the boy she's supposed to save. I feel like we're just glimpsing the tip of the iceberg in this book, and I can't wait to see what unravels in the following books! Which brings me to the cliffhanger. The book does have some answers, but there is also so much that is left unanswered. Normally this drives me crazy, but when a book is this amazing, and this well written, I just want it to go on and on. I can't wait for the next book!
You may want to know: Unearthly has a minor amount of profanity, and a lot of kisses! For more details, check it out on Parental Book Reviews!

Balto has a quiet life as a sled dog—until tragedy strikes. Dozens of children in Nome become sick with diphtheria. Without antitoxin serum, they will perish—and the closest supply is 650 miles away! The only way to get the serum to Nome is by sled, but can the dogs deliver it in time? Heading bravely into a brutal blizzard, Balto leads the race for life.
This book is about a dog named Balto but that's a bit obvious. I forget a LOT of the people's names!!! In this book tons of people get sick in Nome, Alaska with diphtheria and so it spreads really quickly! The only cure is called antitoxin and the only supply is 650 miles away!! So the people who delivered the mail had a idea to get as many musher's that would come forth to go and it the med's and they'd all go in different places to get the med's and bring it back to Nome.
I didn't like this book very much because it didn't have any detail and it was like someone looking down from above what they saw. Balto is my favorite because the book only has like two people. I also liked him because he had REALLY good senses and because in the middle of a storm when no other dog could find the way he could. If you like books about history, or dogs, you might like it.
In James Patterson's blockbuster series, fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world. She and all the members of the "flock"--Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids--only they have wings and can fly. It may seem like a dream come true to some, but their lives can morph into a living nightmare at any time...like when Angel, the youngest member of the flock, is kidnapped and taken back to the "School" where she and the others were experimented on by a crew of wack jobs. Her friends brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare--this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Whether in the treetops of Central Park or in the bowels of the Manhattan subway system, Max and her adopted family take the ride of their lives. Along the way Max discovers from her old friend and father-figure Jeb--now her betrayed and greatest enemy--that her purpose is save the world--but can she?
In this book Max and the flock, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel, are living in peace until one day Erasers, people who can change from human to a wolf, attach their home and force them to leave and go on the run.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!! I LOVED IT cause it's so adventurous! My favorite people are Max, Angel, and Fang! I like Max because she was strong and cool! Then I like Fang because he is so like emo and stuff! I like Angel because she is cute and she can read minds! I LOVE this book it's so violent and stuff!!!!!!!
The reader was REALLY good. She had like awesome voices for everyone! The audio that we listened to also had music and some sound effects. Not too much, but it was different than others I've listened to.

Eugene is an imaginative eight-year-old boy who loves comic books and superheroes. Eugene also has his very own supersecret, superhero alter ego named Captain Awesome. MI-TEE!

Luckily Eugene's secret superhero alter ego Captain Awesome is there to protect Sunnyview...and the universe... from a hilarious cast of creative, comical "bad guys."
My Review
The writing was very good and I liked how the author would tell you exactly what was happening
and I read the book in just two days. I really enjoyed the book and it was very easy to read. I think I liked Eugene most because he had such good imagination and he would play in his room and pretend he was saving people from lava. The book was set either at Eugene's home or school. I didn't like how Eugene was only at his school or at his house, sometimes it became boring. And the author didn't really explain Eugene's life or his friends and sister. My favorite part would have to be the pictures, they where really cool and I liked them very much, George O'Conner did a very good job. If you like Super-hero books, this was a good one!
This is funny ......
About the Author
When Stan Kirby was 6-years-old, he tied a beach towel around his neck and became Super Commander Beach Boy. He tried his best to protect sand castles from the waves, keep seagulls away from his French fries and keep the beach clean.
When Stan's not creating the awesome adventures of Captain Awesome, he loves reading comic books, eating okra and hang-gliding (but not at the same time).
About the Illustrator George O'Connor's cover -- as a mild-mannered clerk in one of Gotham's most beloved children's bookstores -- was completely blown when his first picture book, KAPOW!, exploded onto the scene. Forced to leave the bookselling world behind, he now spends even more time in his secret Brooklyn, New York, hideout -- where he uses his amazing artistic powers to strike fear in the hearts of bad guys everywhere!
